Over two nights at Manjedal Activity Centre, we’ll learn by doing in a supportive, encouraging environment. You’ll explore key hiking skills including navigation, route planning, lightweight packing, camp cooking and managing safety and risk. There’ll be opportunities to try different equipment, share tips and learn what works best for you. Leaders will also be supported to build the knowledge and confidence needed to take their Unit bushwalking.
This weekend is perfect if you’re preparing for events like Nighthawk and Mission Impossible, or the State Jamboree hiking expeditions. It’s also a great opportunity to work towards Camping or Expedition Trefoil badges, or work on the adventurous journey requirements for your Duke of Edinburgh Award. Those working on qualifications will be guided through the process, with mentoring and support across the weekend.
On Sunday, we’ll head out together to experience one of WA’s classic bushwalks, Kitty’s Gorge. You can choose your own level of challenge, whether that’s hiking with a full pack or enjoying the walk with a lighter daypack. It’s a great chance to put your new skills into practice, enjoy the scenery and build confidence on the trail.
We'll base ourselves at Manjedal Activity Centre, at the camping huts. There is the option for staying in the camping 'huts' ('Bibbulmun Track' style 3 sided roofed shelters) or in shared lightweight hiking tents - either way, you will need to dress warmly. The evenings will be relaxed and practical, with shared meals, skill building, some night navigation, campfire and time to connect with others.
For more information on the event, including a Kit List, please refer to the Participant Information Booklet.
If you’ve been thinking about giving hiking a go, building your skills or taking the next step in your Guiding journey, this weekend is for you.
